Summer Vacation of Song
Paul Lincoln, piano
Classical soprano Elizabeth Kennedy will transport you with American classical and popular songs to welcome summertime. Works by Samuel Barber, George Gershwin and Victor Herbert evoke porch swings, ice cream and summer romance.
Miss Kennedy will bring her longtime NYC collaborator and frequent vacation companion of choice, pianist Paul Lincoln to help stir up some summer fun! The program explores various aspects of the magic of summer . . . the childhood comforts of home, the ways we renew our perspectives in summer and quench our lust for adventure, foreign travel, and summer hijinx. Prominently featured is the breathtaking Knoxville Summer of 1915, by Samuel Barber.
Summer-themed songs from shows like as Porgy and Bess, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Grey Gardens, Street Scene, and She Loves Me will evoke a mixture of nostalgia, inspiration and silly summer fun.
“Having spent my youth and young adulthood in U. City and Ladue, my experience of summer is intimately connected to my St. Louis origins. It’s only right that Paul and I perform our favorite summer concert here in St. Louis. The music is a slice of heaven! Join us as we throw some sizzling American songs on the barbeque, St. Louis style!” said Elizabeth.
